Cacao, a bean whose origin dates back to the 9th century BC and that even served as a currency in the period of Pre-Hispanic Mexico, is now an important alternative of sustainable development in Colombia. Arauquita has traditionally produced one of the best cacaos in the world, obtaining important awards in 2016 and 2017.
It is very important for the environment. Since its evolution, the cacao tree has had a very strong relationship with animals and plants that maintain the genetic diversity of the species. It is also a productive and undergrowth crop, that is, in the shade.
